BORDEAUX (33) - PONT SIMONE VEIL

About the project

A landmark structure, the new Simone Veil Bridge majestically spans 549 metres above the river.

This ambition project, led by the Greater Bordeaux authorities, was designed to facilitate traffic with 2×2 car lanes and also promotes greener transport with a cycle lane and a 16 m wide pavement.

What was PRO-FOND’s contribution?

PRO-FOND, in collaboration with Bouygues TP Région France, played a key role in this project. Our role? To lay the deep foundations for the bridge’s 8 piles.

With a budget of almost 4 million euros, PRO-FOND demonstrated their expertise and their ability to handle such large-scale projects.

Which techniques were used?

We used a particularly complex technique: the creation of 32 x 2500 mm diameter piles, rarely seen in construction projects in France. These piles, measuring between 25 and 36 meters, were driven using a metal boom spanning the Garonne, underneath bentonite mud once the definitive metal tube had been vibration-driven down to the marly substrate.

Which challenges did PRO-FOND have to overcome?

The site was put to a stop before we were brought in. After our arrival on site under difficult conditions, we managed to complete our task within the time required, demonstrating our ability to overcome obstacles and meet critical deadlines.

Additional information

This bridge isn’t just a structure, it connects the various parts of Bordeaux and helps build connections and bring people together. It makes the lives of thousands of people easier and embraces current trends, encouraging non-motorized modes of transport.
