BORDEAUX (33) BRAZZA – LIAISON SOUS-FLUVIALE

About the project

Bordeaux Métropole signed a project to develop the Brazza sector: turning it into a mixed urban neighborhood in a former business district of Bordeaux. This project, which forms part of a wider initiative to develop the right bank area involves the creation of an outflow under the Garonne to channel wastewater to the Louis Fargues water purification station on the left bank.

What was PRO-FOND’s contribution?

PRO-FOND, as a sub-contractor for EIFFAGE GC, played a key role in this project. We created the diaphragm wall for an entrance shaft for the micro-tunnel borer, with a connecting structure on the right bank and an exit shaft on the left bank.

Which techniques were used?

We used a number of cutting-edge techniques for this project. The diaphragm wall was made using a hydraulic cutter for the entrance and exit shafts, and using a hydraulic bucket for the connecting structure. These methods guarantee a precise and long-lasting structure, which is essential for the success for this type of project.

Which challenges did PRO-FOND have to overcome?

The main challenge was to build complex underground structures in a dense urban environment. Precision and safety were of utmost importance, given the proximity of the Garonne and the vital importance of these structures for the project as a whole.

Additional information

Beyond the technical side, PRO-FOND contributed to a project that will have a long-term positive impact on the community. By facilitating Bordeaux’s urban development and
improving its water treatment infrastructure, it helps create a more sustainable urban environment that is better to live in.
